The Story Behind the Start

October 18, 2017

I’ve always loved how you can look at a picture and remember exactly how you felt when you took it. That may be why I keep so many pictures hidden all over my home. Some days I’ll just get lost looking through my old memories. And there’s nothing better than when the old family albums get pulled out. There’s a story waiting to be told behind every smiling face.

But my true love of photography began along with my passion for traveling. The first time I left the country was when I was 16 years old. Seeing beauty like that captivated me. Trying to capture the beautiful scenes and landscapes I saw just never did them justice. I then studied abroad in Spain where I lived for 5 months. I traveled all around Europe and even to Morocco (hello, culture shock!) I took pictures of everything and anything I thought was beautiful. Which, let’s be honest, was everything! I remember a moment when I was in Amsterdam with one of my best friends. I stopped to take a picture of what I thought was simply a beautiful moment.

“What are you even taking a picture of?!” she asked.  “You’re literally taking pictures of everything.”

“Well that’s because I think it’s all beautiful,” I said.

The truth is, I’ve always felt a strong connection and sense of gratitude every time I capture a moment of beauty around me. And traveling certainly stirred up the fire I have now.

More recently I realized this fire is one I just can’t put out. That’s how you know it’s what you’re meant to do. I feel a strong calling to combine my desire of capturing the natural beauty around us with capturing the beauty of connection in front of us…..and then impacting those same people in front of the camera.

The beautiful souls I shoot with are the same souls I want to inspire. They are the people I want to dream with, to build community with. I want them to see someone chasing their dreams and know that same someone is rooting for them to chase theirs, too.

See friend, this is more than just wanting to snap your picture. This is more than just making a business. This is a story of a woman just going after what she’s being called to do.
